ABOUT THE PROJECT
A rare time capsule that takes us backstage at one of hip-hop's most legendary tours. In 1987, Public Enemy joined LL Cool J on a European tour that would go down in history, and the sirens opening their shows later appeared on Public Enemy's next album, It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back.
On November 13, 1987, at the Ritz in Stockholm, two graffiti artists, Disey and Ziggy, found their way backstage, thanks to none other than Flavor Flav. What started as a chance encounter turned into a front-row pass to history. Disey had his Nikon FE with him, snapping shots of the crew behind the scenes, on stage, and at record signings. The energy was raw. The movement was real. The images curated by Skarp Projects are a portal to a time before hip-hop was a billion-dollar industry, before its aesthetic ruled fashion weeks and luxury maisons. In these frames, LL Cool J and Public Enemy aren’t just performers; they are revolutionaries, shaping a movement in real-time and showing the world what was coming.
