ABOUT THE PROJECT
Africa bears the brunt of the impact of terrorism in lives lost, economies ruined and relationships fractured. Extremists target public spaces such as markets and bus stations, forcing people to make a difficult choice between risking death by going to work to earn a meagre living, or risking the very survival of their families.
The stories of survivors in Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Nigeria and Uganda are captured by award winning photographer and visual journalist Malin Fezehai, working currently for The Washington Post, The New York Times, National Geographic and United Nations.
The exhibition is aiming to highlight and amplify the voices of those who often suffer in silence. The diverse religious, ethnic and national backgrounds of the survivors highlight that violent extremism is a shared burden and one that humanity as a whole must respond to.
Curated for United Nations Development Programme by Skarp Projects, and crafted to travel around Europe, we customized a flexible steel framework allowing the exhibition to be displayed in a variety of locations, as well as tailormade wooden cases to keep the exhibition safe while traveling.
